دَعِينيspare me مِنَfrom العَذلِreproach أَينَwhere الكَبيرُthe great one
بِحُرمَةِby the sanctity of مَعبودِكyour deity الأَكبَرِthe greatest
Spare me reproach—where is the great one?
Let me weep for glory now withdrawn
By the sanctity of your supreme deity.
By Him whose worship you call most adored,
فَلَستُfor I am not بِباكٍone who weeps عَلىfor ظاعِنٍone departing
وَلاnor طَلَلٍa ruin مَحوِلٍtimeworn مُقفِرdeserted
For I do not weep for one departing,
My tears lament no faithless love forlorn,
Nor for a timeworn, deserted ruin.
No home left tenantless and cold and bare;
وَلكِنbut بُكائيmy weeping عَلىfor ماجِدٍa noble man
أَرادَhe wished نَوالاًgenerous giving فَلَمbut did not يَقدِرِhave the ability
But my weeping is for a noble man
But the proud fortunes of a day outworn
Who wished to give generously, but could not.
That sought ambition's prize and failed to share.
