Peace be upon you from a little old man bent like a bow,

With a worn-out body and shattered bones.

Did not the rights of boon companions and the sanctity of the

Praises require that he be shown kindness and mercy?

O Abu Hasan, be just, for you are the arbiter.

And never approach injustice, for injustice is dark.

Should one like me be left forsaken under your protection,

While your pool brims with generosity for visitors?

And by God, I have not fallen short in gratitude for a favor

You bestowed long ago—and the Lord of the Throne knows.
