وَلا عَن رِضاً كانَ الحِمارُ مطيَّتي

وَلا عَن رِضاً كانَ الحِمارُ مطيَّتي

وَلكِنَّ مَن يَمشي سَيَرضى بِما رَكِب

وَلكِنَّ مَن يَمشي سَيَرضى بِما رَكِب

It was not by choice that the donkey was my mount,

Nor was the donkey my chosen ride

but whoever walks will be content with whatever he rides.

But he who walks will take whatever may carry him by
