أَقولُ لَها وَالصُبحُ قَد لاحَ ضَوءُهُ

أَقولُ لَها وَالصُبحُ قَد لاحَ ضَوءُهُ

كَما لاحَ ضَوءُ البارِقِ المُتَأَلِّقِ

كَما لاحَ ضَوءُ البارِقِ المُتَأَلِّقِ

I say to her, as dawn's light has shone forth,

I see the dawn's light as it shines bright

just as the light of dazzling lightning shines:

Just as bright as lightning's glittering light

شَبيهُكِ قَد وافى وَلاحَ اِفتِراقُنا

شَبيهُكِ قَد وافى وَلاحَ اِفتِراقُنا

فَهَل لَكِ في صَوتٍ وَكَأسٍ مُرَوَّقِ

فَهَل لَكِ في صَوتٍ وَكَأسٍ مُرَوَّقِ

'Your likeness has arrived, and our parting is in sight;

The time of parting has come, my dear

so would you care for a song and a cup of clear wine?'

Is there a song or cup you hold near?

فَقالَت شِفائي في الَّذي قَد ذَكَرتَهُ

فَقالَت شِفائي في الَّذي قَد ذَكَرتَهُ

وَإِن كُنتَ قَد نَغَّصتَهُ بِالتَفَرُّقِ

وَإِن كُنتَ قَد نَغَّصتَهُ بِالتَفَرُّقِ

Then she said, 'My cure lies in what you have mentioned,

She said, "What you mentioned will heal me

though you have spoiled it with parting.'

Though parting has brought anxiety"
