ليI have صَديقٌa friend مُغرىًenamored بِقُربيof my company وَشَدويand my singing
لي صَديقٌ مُغرىً بِقُربي وَشَدوي
وَلَهُand he has عِندَat ذاكَthat وَجهٌa face صَفيقbrazen
وَلَهُ عِندَ ذاكَ وَجهٌ صَفيق
I have a friend enamored of my company and my singing,
I have a friend enamored by my company and delight
yet in this he is brazen-faced.
Whenever we meet, she has such a radiant face
قَولُهُhis words إِنif شَدَوتُI sing أَحسَنتَwell done! زِدنيgive me more
قَولُهُ إِن شَدَوتُ أَحسَنتَ زِدني
وَبِأَحسَنتَand for “well done!” لاnot يُباعُis sold الدَقيقthe flour
وَبِأَحسَنتَ لا يُباعُ الدَقيق
When I sing, he says, “Well done! Give me more!”
She tells me "Whenever you sing, it sounds so sweet
But flour is not sold for “Well done!”
But with mere compliments, flour cannot be bought"
