مِنَamong الإِخوانِthe friends ذوone possessing كَرَمٍgenerosity وَفيرِabundant
I fell ill, but in my sickness I was not visited
I fell ill, and none of my brothers, generous and abundant, visited me in my sickness.
by any friend of abundant generosity.
Yet if they fall ill, as days have their judgment, it shall reach both elder and younger.
فَإِنso if مَرِضواthey fell ill وَلِلأَيّامِand to time belongs حُكمٌa decree
سَيَنفُذُwill take effect فيupon الكَبيرِthe great وَفيand upon الصَغيرِthe small
So if they fall ill—and time has a decree
I rose at daybreak to wine and amusements, and if they die, I shall mourn at their graves.
that will be enforced upon great and small—
I set out in the morning عَلىfor المُدامَةِwine وَالملاهيand amusements
وَإِنand if ماتواthey died حَزِنتُI grieved عَلىover القُبورِthe graves
I set out in the morning for wine and amusements;
and if they die, I grieve over their graves.
