لا تَعذِلوني إِن هَجَرتُ طَعامَهُ

لا تَعذِلوني إِن هَجَرتُ طَعامَهُ

خَوفاً عَلى نَفسي مِنَ المَأكولِ

خَوفاً عَلى نَفسي مِنَ المَأكولِ

Do not reproach me if I shun his food,

Do not blame me if I avoid his food

fearing for my life because of the food.

Out of fear for myself from what is eaten

فَمَتى أَكَلتُ قَتَلتُهُ مِن بُخلِهِ

فَمَتى أَكَلتُ قَتَلتُهُ مِن بُخلِهِ

وَمَتى قَتَلتُ قُتِلتُ بِالمَقتولِ

وَمَتى قَتَلتُ قُتِلتُ بِالمَقتولِ

For whenever I eat, I kill him because of his stinginess,

For if I eat, I kill him out of his stinginess

and whenever I kill, I am killed in retribution for the slain.

And if I kill, I will be killed for the slain
