وَذي جِدَةٍ طَلَبتُ إِلَيهِ بِرّاً

وَذي جِدَةٍ طَلَبتُ إِلَيهِ بِرّاً

مِنَ الجُلَساءِ مَذمومِ الخَلائِق

مِنَ الجُلَساءِ مَذمومِ الخَلائِق

And I asked a wealthy man for kindness—

I asked a man of dignity for some kindness

One of the companions, of blameworthy character.

From those sitting whose morals are reproachable

فَأَقسَمَ إِنَّهُ رَجُلٌ فَقيرٌ

فَأَقسَمَ إِنَّهُ رَجُلٌ فَقيرٌ

أَرانيهِ المُهَيمِنُ وَهوَ صادِق

أَرانيهِ المُهَيمِنُ وَهوَ صادِق

So he swore that he was a poor man.

He swore he was a poor man

May the Guardian show him to me telling the truth!

The Overseer showed me he was truthful

كَأَنّي بِالمَنازِلِ عَن قَليلٍ

كَأَنّي بِالمَنازِلِ عَن قَليلٍ

خَلَونَ مِنَ المُطَرَّزَةِ النَمارِق

خَلَونَ مِنَ المُطَرَّزَةِ النَمارِق

I can almost see the houses, before long,

It's as if I see dwellings after a little while

Standing empty of the embroidered cushions;

Empty of embroidered carpets

وَقَد ظَفِرَ النِساءُ بِما تَرَكتُم

وَقَد ظَفِرَ النِساءُ بِما تَرَكتُم

فَصارَ لِماهِرٍ بِالنَيكِ حاذِق

فَصارَ لِماهِرٍ بِالنَيكِ حاذِق

And the women have gained what you left behind,

And women got what you left behind

So it passed to a skilled man, adept at fucking.

So what a skilled embroiderer made became theirs
