قَدindeed أَسرَفَتshe has gone too far فيin العَذلِreproach مَشغولَةٌan engrossed woman
بِعَزلِin isolating مَشغولٍa preoccupied man عَنِfrom العَذلِreproach
A woman has gone too far in reproach, engrossed
She reproached me for neglecting her,
In isolating a man too preoccupied to heed reproach.
preoccupied with someone neglecting neglect.
تَقولُshe says هَلwhether أَقصَرتَyou have desisted عَنfrom باطِلٍfolly
أَعرِفُهُI know it عَنfrom دينِكَyour creed الأَوَّلِformer
She says: Have you abandoned the folly
She said, “Have you fallen short of falsehood
I know from your former creed?
that I know goes against your first religion?”
فَقُلتُso I said ماnot أَحسَبُنيI think myself مُقصِراًdesisting
ماas long as أُعصِرَتwas pressed راحٌwine بِقُطرُيُّلِin Qutruyyul
So I said: I do not think I shall desist,
So I said, “I don’t think I’ve fallen short.
As long as wine is pressed in Qutruyyul,
No cheek has been squeezed by Qutrayyil,
وَماand as long as اِستَدارَcurled الصِدغُthe temple-lock فيupon ناعِمٍa tender youth
مُوَرِّدٍrosy كَاللَهَبِlike the flame المُشعَلِkindled
And as long as the temple-lock curls upon a tender youth,
Nor has a delicate, smooth cheek blushed
Rosy as a kindled flame.
like kindled flames in an igniter.”
قالَتshe said فَأَينَthen where المُلتَقىthe meeting place بَعدَafter ذاthis
فَقُلتُso I said بَينَbetween الدَنِّthe wine jar وَالمِبزَلِand the spigot
She said: Where, then, shall we meet after this?
She said, “So where is the meeting place after this?”
So I said: Between the wine jar and the spigot.
I said, “Between disgrace and the abode.”
