A friend of mine invited me to eat qatayif.
So I indulged in them, secure and unafraid.

رُوَيدَكَ مَهلاً فَهيَ إِحدى المَتالِفِ
Then he said, my eating having pained his heart:
“Easy now, slowly—for these are among the things that kill!”

So I said to him, “Never have we heard of a dead man
over whom someone cries, ‘O you slain by qatayif!’”
