1. مجنكم يا شباب بعدي

    فهذه شمسكم تطل

  2. والعقل عند الهوى مجن

    لو كان عند الشباب عقل

    And reason is a shield in the face of passion,

    If the young had any reason.

  3. كم قال يا ليل ذو شجون

    فهل أجاب النداء ليل

    How often has one full of sorrows said, 'O night!'

    But has night answered the call?

  4. يا داخل الحب مستغلاً

    دخلت ما ليس منه دخل

    O you who enter love seeking profit,

    You have entered what yields no income.

  5. لو أشيع الحب صار حوبا

    أو يقطع الوصل فهو صل

    If love were made public, it would become a sin;

    Or if union is severed, it is a viper.

  6. ما أضيع العمر من معنى

    حياته لوعة وشكل

    How wasted is the life of one tormented,

    Whose life is anguish and fetters!

  7. مسكين الصب لم ينله ال

    هوى ولم يلو منه عذل

    Poor is the lovesick one: he has received no

    Love, nor has reproach turned away from him.

  8. وتلك يا عاشقون مني

    نصيحةٌ قبل أن تزلوا

    And that, O lovers, is my

    Advice, before you stumble.

  9. إن لم أكن قد نفعت نفسي

    فلي على العاشقين فضل

    If I have not benefited myself,

    Then I have done the lovers a favor.
