تريدون علم الغيب أو كشف سره

وأنتم من الدنيا ضيوف على سفر

وأنتم من الدنيا ضيوف على سفر

You seek knowledge of the unseen, or the unveiling of its secret,

You seek the knowledge of the unseen or its secret revealed

while you are this world's guests, on a journey.

Yet you are guests in this world just briefly here

ولا يطلب المرء العلوم مسافرا

ولا يطلب المرء العلوم مسافرا

ولكن متى أنهى السياحة واستقر

ولكن متى أنهى السياحة واستقر

A person does not pursue the sciences while traveling,

One should not seek much knowledge when one's travel is brief

but when he has finished his travels and settled.

Rather when the journey ends and one finally settles

أأنتم على علم بما في نفوسكم

أأنتم على علم بما في نفوسكم

وادراك كنه السر في السمع والبصر

وادراك كنه السر في السمع والبصر

Do you know what lies within your own souls,

Do you know what is in your own souls

and understand the secret's essence in hearing and sight?

And comprehend the essence of what eyes and ears hear

صحائف بالأخيار مرت فمن يشأ

صحائف بالأخيار مرت فمن يشأ

تذكر آياً تحمل السطر والخبر

تذكر آياً تحمل السطر والخبر

Pages have passed among the righteous; whoever wishes

Pages of the virtuous have passed so whoever desires

may recall verses bearing the written lines and tidings.

May remember verses bearing line and narrative

كفاكم من اللَه الحياة وفضله

كفاكم من اللَه الحياة وفضله

عليكم بأقوات من الحب والثمر

عليكم بأقوات من الحب والثمر

Life from God suffices you, and His bounty

Sufficient for you from God is life and His grace

upon you in provisions of grain and fruit.

With sustenance for you of love and fruit

لكم سخر الأجواء والماء والثرى

لكم سخر الأجواء والماء والثرى

ومن فضله أن سخر الشمس والقمر

ومن فضله أن سخر الشمس والقمر

For you He made the skies, water, and soil subservient,

For you He subjugated the skies, water and land

and among His favors is that He made the sun and moon serve you.

And by His grace subjugated the sun and moon

وأمسك فيض الماء يطغى على الثرى

وأمسك فيض الماء يطغى على الثرى

ولو فاض لا يبقى عليكم ولا يذر

ولو فاض لا يبقى عليكم ولا يذر

And He restrained the overflow of water from overwhelming the earth;

He held back the torrents of water flooding the land

were it to overflow, it would spare none of you and leave nothing.

And had it burst forth, nothing of you would remain

ومن بدعه رفع السماء وشمسها

ومن بدعه رفع السماء وشمسها

ولو كان أدناها من الكون لا نصهر

ولو كان أدناها من الكون لا نصهر

And among His wonders is that He raised the sky and its sun;

And of His wonders, raising the sky and its sun

had He brought it nearer to the world, the world would have melted.

Had it been lower, it would have melted and fused us

وعين للأفلاك نهجاً منظماً

وعين للأفلاك نهجاً منظماً

لكل من الأفلاك سبحٌ ومستقر

لكل من الأفلاك سبحٌ ومستقر

And He assigned the celestial spheres an ordered course;

And He set a regulated path for the celestial orbits

each celestial sphere has its swimming motion and resting place.

Each orbit swimming has an appointed destination

ومن بره لم يترك الأرض قفرة

ومن بره لم يترك الأرض قفرة

فمن فيضه أن أرسل السحب بالمطر

فمن فيضه أن أرسل السحب بالمطر

And in His kindness, He did not leave the earth barren;

And of His mercy, He left not the earth a wasteland

so from His abundance He sent the clouds with rain.

So from His bounty, He sent clouds with rain

لمن كل هذا لابن آدم ليته

لمن كل هذا لابن آدم ليته

تذكر فضل اللَه فارتاح أو شكر

تذكر فضل اللَه فارتاح أو شكر

For whom is all this? For the son of Adam—if only he

For whom is all this, for man - if only he

remembered God's bounty, and found peace or gave thanks,

Remembered God's favor, rested or gave thanks

وسلم كل الأمر للَه وحده

وسلم كل الأمر للَه وحده

فكل أمور الخلق في قبضة القدر

فكل أمور الخلق في قبضة القدر

and entrusted the whole matter to God alone;

And surrendered all affairs to God alone

for all creation's affairs are in the grasp of destiny.

For all matters of creation are in the grasp of destiny
