سبحانك سبحانك يا ربي تعاليت

Glory to You, glory to You, O my Lord! Exalted are You

عن زوج وشريك وشبيهٍ وولد

above any spouse, partner, likeness, or child.

لا كم ولا كيف ولا فيمَ ولا كيت

No 'how much,' no 'how,' no 'in what,' no 'such-and-such.'

والقول متى قلت فلا حرف ولا حد

And Your speech, whenever You speak, has neither letter nor limit.

كم حار أولو العقل بما فيه تجليت

How often those endowed with reason have been bewildered by that in which You manifested Yourself!

والعقل المحدود إذ امتد شرد

And the finite mind, when it reached out, went astray.

للعقل وللقب وللروح تراءيت

To the mind, to the [heart?], and to the spirit You appeared,

معنى لا مقنى مأهولاً بجسد

as meaning, not a possession [unclear] inhabited by a body.

عبدوك الكمل بالحق فأوليت

The perfected ones worshipped You in truth, and You bestowed

ما الكل روى فيه وما شذ احد

what everyone has recounted, with no one an exception.

يا رب لك الحمد على ما أعطيت

O Lord, praise is Yours for what You gave

للعبد فأرضيت وبالشكر سجد

to the servant; You contented him, and in gratitude he prostrated himself.

الحب زرعناه فأخرجت وسويت

We sowed love; You brought it forth and perfected it

للخلق ولولاك لما كان حصد

for creation; without You there would have been no harvest.

والحق تبعناه كما شئت وأمليت

And we followed the truth, as You willed and dictated.

لم نكتب بمداد بل علماً بمدد

We wrote not with ink, but set down knowledge through aid.

لك نور يا ربي ولا نار ولا زيت

Yours is light, O my Lord, with neither fire nor oil.

نورت به القلب فصلى وعبد

With it You illumined the heart, so it prayed and worshipped.

يا رب لي الضر بما فيه قضيت

O Lord, mine is affliction, according to what You decreed concerning it.

كن رداً لي واحفظ من كيد وكيد

Be my defense, and protect me from plot upon plot.
