Oh, the grief of high offices for one departed,
The zeal for leadership on a noble steed
who once filled the eye and ear.
Had filled his eyes and hearing

The yearning for supremacy was restrained in him

The full moon set from its highest point

Virtues weep for Peter
that valiant, noble, splendid man.
That magnanimous, glorious hero

I searched when I could not find my match
equal to the task, for Virtue to weep with me.
Worthy to weep with me over excellence

It was said to me he had followed after him
the day we buried him, and did not return.
The day we buried him and did not return

And befriended them, O desolate one

Assuaging sorrow over an afflicted Muslim
