O daughter of Rome, do not be as
O daughter of Rome, be not like
Athens was, amid hearsay and gossip.
Athens amidst talk and chatter.

You buried God's justice in His earth;
You buried the justice of God in His land,
So guard yourself against the evil of that outcome.
So beware the evil of that consequence.

Your people are a folk who examine idols,
Your people are a folk who seek bloodshed
And take omens from birds—the birds of fancy.
And frighten the birds, the birds of fantasy.

No wonder if their wits have taken flight,
Inevitably, if they flew away with their minds
And through their waywardness they have fallen into madness.
And became lost in their delusion.

This is Tripoli, and her sons, the brave—
This is Tripoli, and its rugged sons
—ones, urge forward the ranks of battle.
Who arrange the rows of battle.

The Italians' armored ships could not
The fortresses of the Italians could not
Endure the blasting and the volleys of arrows,
Endure with patience the bombardment and the volley of arrows.

Until they sank to the bottom, still manned,
Until the populated city collapsed
And defiled the resting place of precious pearls.
Defiling the refuge of the precious treasures.

You have been forbearing, O lion, and have not yet sprung;
You were forbearing, oh if only you had not slipped
So roar, for the time has come for the crescent to appear clearly.
Then roar, for the crescent's clarity has come.

In your hand is the sickle; so reap with it
In your hand is the sickle, so reap with it
The lives of peoples who have transgressed in error.
The lives of people who went astray into misguidance.
