عجِبتُ لهم قالوا سَقَطتَ ومن يكُن

عجِبتُ لهم قالوا سَقَطتَ ومن يكُن

مكانكَ يَأمَن من سُقوطٍ وَيَسلَمِ

مكانكَ يَأمَن من سُقوطٍ وَيَسلَمِ

I marveled at them: they said, 'You have fallen!' Yet whoever is

In your place is safe from falling and remains unharmed.

فَأَنتَ امرُؤٌ أَلصَقت نفسكَ بالثَرى

فَأَنتَ امرُؤٌ أَلصَقت نفسكَ بالثَرى

وحرَّمتَ خَوفَ الذُلِّ ما لَم يُحرَّمِ

وحرَّمتَ خَوفَ الذُلِّ ما لَم يُحرَّمِ

For you are a man who has glued himself to the dust,

And, fearing humiliation, forbidden himself what was not forbidden.

فَلَو أَسقَطوا من حيثُ أنتَ زُجاجَةً

فَلَو أَسقَطوا من حيثُ أنتَ زُجاجَةً

على الصَخرِ لم تُصدَع وَلم تَتَحطَّمِ

على الصَخرِ لم تُصدَع وَلم تَتَحطَّمِ

So, were they to drop a glass bottle from where you are

Onto rock, it would neither crack nor shatter.
