بِأنَّكin the fact that You تَعفوpardon عنregarding كَثيرٍmuch وَترحمُand show mercy
I feared You until it was said that I did not trust
I feared You until it was said that I did not trust
that You pardon much and show mercy.
That You would pardon much and have mercy.
وَأَمَّلتُand I hoped حتىuntil قيلَit was said ليسَhe is not بخائِفٍafraid
منof اللَهِGod أنthat تَشويscorch الوجوهَthe faces جهنَّمُHell
And I hoped until it was said, 'He has no fear
And I hoped until it was said there is no fearful one
of God—of Hell scorching faces.'
That hellfire would blacken the faces.
فَشَأنِيَso my plight فيin حالِيَّmy condition ياO رَبِّmy Lord حيرَةٌbewilderment
بهاabout it أَنتَYou منfrom دونِapart from البَرِيَّةِcreation أعلَمُknow best
So in my condition, O my Lord, my plight is bewilderment,
So my state, O Lord, is confusion
which You, apart from all creation, know best.
About which You, beyond creation, know best.
أَقِلنيrelease me منfrom الشَكِّthe doubt الذيthat قدalready أحاطَclosed in بيaround me
فَشَأنِيَfor my plight فيin حالَيَّmy two states ياO رَبِّmy Lord مُبهَمُobscure
Release me from the doubt that has surrounded me;
Lessen me from the doubt that has surrounded me
for my plight in both my states, O my Lord, is obscure.
So my state, O Lord, is ambiguous.

Command the veils to be lifted from You, so I may receive guidance
Order the veils to be lifted from You, I will receive guidance
plainly, and a sinner may tread the path of truth.
Openly and pursue the path of truth, being directed.
