بَنيO sons of عَمِّناour paternal uncle ماhow أَسرَعَswift is اللَّومَthe blame مِنكُمُfrom you
إِلَيناto us وَماand not نَبغيwe wrong عَلَيكُمagainst you وَلاand not نَجُرwe act unjustly
Cousins, how swiftly blame comes from you
O sons of our uncle, how quickly you blame us
to us, though we neither wrong you nor act unjustly.
When we desire no ill upon you nor injure you
بَنيO sons of عَمِّناour paternal uncle إِنَّindeed الرِّكابَthe riding camels بِأَهلِهاwith their riders

Cousins, indeed the riding camels, bearing their riders,
O sons of our uncle, caravans are ruled by their leader
when a kinsman mistreats them, depart at evening and dawn.
When the Master is displeased, they wander and rise early
بَنيO sons of عَمِّناour paternal uncle إِنّاindeed we نَفيءُwe turn back إِلَيكُمُto you
بِأَحلامِناwith our forbearance فيin الحادِثِthe calamity الهائِلِterrifying النُّكُرgrievous
Cousins, indeed we turn back to you
O sons of our uncle, we shall return to you
with our forbearance amid a terrifying, grievous calamity.
With our dreams after this terrible, monstrous event
وَنَشرَبُand we drink رَنقَthe murk of الماءِthe water مِنfrom دونِshort of سُخطِكُمyour displeasure

And we drink murky water rather than incur your displeasure,
And we shall drink the pure water without your displeasure
though clear water and turbid water are not alike.
For the pure and the murky water are not equal
أَرىI see قَومَناour people لاnot يَغفِرونَthey forgive ذُنوبَناour sins
وَنَحنُand we إِذاwhen ماan emphatic particle أَذنَبواthey sin لَهُمtoward them غُفُرforgiving
I see our people do not forgive our sins,
I see our people do not forgive our sins
yet whenever they sin, we are forgiving toward them.
Yet we, if they sin against us, forgive
