Who can find me a graceful cupbearer

    whose cheek-down has spread?

He is like a full moon in the dark,

with a midmorning sun in his palm.

I have kept drinking his wine,

at evening and in the morning,

until I could no longer see

the drinking companion except as a shadowy figure.

And in love I have defied

whoever blamed me for it and reproached me.

O heart, how often you remember him!

    May torment never leave you!

This is the one you love—

how many a lover's heart has been wounded!

O friend, O friend, serve me

the cup from his two palms.

    And seize life, for

    the nights leave no joy.

It is as though the full moon, having

    appeared clearly before us,

were the face of Mujir al-Din,

our lord, whenever he is praised.
