Turn aside to Abbas: you will find a young man,
Wonder at Abbas who met a youth
neither Nakrish nor Badhaj.
Neither fierce Nor rude
فَيلَسوفٌa philosopher ماnot يُريقُsheds دَماًblood
وَبِخَدَّيهِand in his two cheeks دَمُthe blood المُهجِof hearts
A philosopher who sheds no blood,
A philosopher who sheds no blood
yet in his cheeks is the blood of hearts.
With cheeks that shed tears of passion
لَوif تَمَعَّناهُcontemplated him (uncertain reading) السَديدَal-Sadid سَلاwould forget
قَلبُهُhis heart عَنaway from عِشقِهِhis love البَكجيal-Bakji
If al-Sadid contemplated him, his heart would forget
If we examined him closely
its love for al-Bakji.
His heart turned away from ardent love

I said when our gathering's light
radiant from his cheerful face:
Radiated from his bright face

Indeed, a house in which you dwell
You live in a house
has no need of lamps;
With no need for lamps
