عَبَرتُI passed عَلىby دارِthe house of الصَلاحِSalah وَقَدand already خَلَتit had become empty
مِنَof القَمَرِthe moon الوَضّاحِradiant وَالمَنهِلِand the wellspring العَذبِsweet
I passed by Salah's house, and it stood empty
Of the radiant moon and the sweet wellspring.
فَوَاللَهِso, by God لَولاbut for سُرعَةٌswiftness مِثلُlike عَزمِهِhis resolve
لَغَرَّقَهاwould surely have drowned it طَرفيmy eye وَأَحرَقَهاand would have burned it قَلبيmy heart
So, by God, but for a swiftness like his resolve,
My eye would have drowned it, and my heart set it ablaze.
