ضِدُّ اِسمِهِ المُنقِذِيُّ عَن ثِقَةٍ

فَلا تَلومَنَّهُ عَلى اللومِ

Al-Munqidhi is surely the opposite of his name;

His name belies the savior of trust

so do not blame him for his baseness.

كَالجُدَرِيِّ الَّذي يُقالُ لَهُ

كَالجُدَرِيِّ الَّذي يُقالُ لَهُ

مُبارَكٌ وَهُوَ أَلفُ مَشئومِ

مُبارَكٌ وَهُوَ أَلفُ مَشئومِ

Like smallpox, which is called

Like the wall that is called

“Blessed,” though it is a thousand times ill-omened.

Blessed though it is cursed evil
