طَعَنتُI struck with a spear غَداةَon the morning of القاعِthe plain شَملَةَShamla طَعنَةًa spear-thrust
طَعَنتُ غَداةَ القاعِ شَملَةَ طَعنَةً
تَرَكتُI left أَباAbu (father of) أَوسٍAws صَربعاًsprawled مُجَدَّلاfelled to the ground
تَرَكتُ أَبا أَوسٍ صَربعاً مُجَدَّلا
That morning on the plain, I struck Shamla with a spear-thrust;
I stabbed Shamlah at dawn in Al-Qaa
I stabbed Shamla on the morning of the plain, a fierce thrust,
I left Abu Aws sprawled, felled to the ground.
Leaving Aws's father writhing and moaning
Leaving Abu Aws prostrate, flung down upon the ground,
وَأَجرَرتُهُand I left lodged in him رُمحيmy spear فَغودِرَso he was left ثاوياًlying there
وَأَجرَرتُهُ رُمحي فَغودِرَ ثاوياً
عَلَيهِover him سِباعُbeasts of prey القاعِthe plain يَردينَrunning حُجَّلاhopping
عَلَيهِ سِباعُ القاعِ يَردينَ حُجَّلا
And I left my spear lodged in him, so he was left lying there,
I dragged him with my spear as he fainted
I gave him my spear to drag, and thus he was left behind,
With the beasts of the plain running over him, hopping.
While beasts of the wasteland tore at his corpse
With the beasts of the plain prancing over his remains.
