أَتَانِيcame to me وَأَصْحَابِيand my companions علىon رَأسِthe summit of صَلْيَعٍṢalyaʿ
أَتَانِي وَأَصْحَابِي على رَأسِ صَلْيَعٍ
حَدِيثٌnews أَطارَdrove away النَّومَsleep عَنِّيfrom me فَأَنْعَمَاand did so utterly
حَدِيثٌ أَطارَ النَّومَ عَنِّي فَأَنْعَمَا
To me and my companions on the summit of Ṣalyaʿ came
News came to me and my companions at the top of Sali'
news that drove sleep from me and banished it utterly.
A conversation that chased away my sleep, so it became bountiful
فقلتُso I said لِعِجْلِيٍّto a man of ʿIjl بَعِيدٍfar away مَآبُهُhis place of return
فقلتُ لِعِجْلِيٍّ بَعِيدٍ مَآبُهُ
أَبْنْmake clear لِيْto me وَبَيِّنْand explain ليto me الحَدِيثَthe report المُجَمْجَمَاobscure
أَبْنْ لِيْ وَبَيِّنْ لي الحَدِيثَ المُجَمْجَمَا
So I said to a man of ʿIjl whose home was far away:
So I said to 'Ijli far away is his place of return
“Make clear to me, and explain to me, the obscure report.”
Explain to me this perplexing conversation
فقالَthen he said أَبَيْتَmay you avoid اللَّعْنَbeing cursed عَمْرٌوʿAmr وَand كَاهِلٌKāhil
فقالَ أَبَيْتَ اللَّعْنَ عَمْرٌو وَ كَاهِلٌ
