Ah, O eye, weep for me with streaming tears,

And weep for me over the departed kings—

Kings among the sons of Hujr, son of Amr,

Who are driven along at evening and slain.

If only they had been struck down on a day of battle!

But they fell in the dwellings of Banu Marina.

So their skulls were not washed with cleansing water,

But they were smeared with blood.

The birds remain intent upon them,

And tear out their eyebrows and eyes.
