Keep to the playground of the cherished fawn,
Seek out the meadows of soft grass,
And turn your soul away from a flirt's dwelling.
And restrain yourself from childish play,
وماand what use قوليmy saying وقدwhen already ذهبتit has gone شعاعاًscattered in all directions

يا نفس اذهبي جزعاً وذوبي
And what use are my words, when my soul is scattered—
And though my words have faded like rays of light,
"O soul, go in anguish and melt away"?
Oh soul, go grieving and melt away.

And the neighbors beside Mina—may they be watered
While my neighbors, whom bounty has watered,
By rain-clouds, with their abundant downpour.
Were revived by a sip of the cupbearer.

The age of unfettered youth passed away as plunder
The free time of youth has passed as plunder,
In their captivity; now comes the age of gray hair.
With its people, and now it's the era of old age.

Their honey-sweet, dark lips are guarded
The gazes that drip honey have avoided me,
By young oryx's glances, with a wolf's gaze.
While the looks of the censurers scorch like flame.

Within my heart you grazed on hearts' love,
That you would graze in my heart upon love.

And fed my gaze on the blossoms of a lush garden,
And you would graze your eye upon a flower of tender meadow
In a wholesome pasture upon your cheek.
In a pasture above your cheek that knows no misconduct.

I love you as long as the sun appears on the horizon
I loved you since the sun rose on the horizon,
And the sun's brother inclines toward setting.
And the deer’s brother inclined toward sunset.

Draw near to your roses, then come close
As a bird approaches, circling over a well.
As a bird in love hovering over its nest.

Mercy! How often I have gnashed my teeth for you,
How often have I knocked insistently upon you
And how often I saddled my aged she-camels the day you departed.
And how often on the day you turned away did I hobble away!

That morning, the herd of the valley-bend sands, turning away,
On a morning when the sands of grief parted ways
Scattered, crossing the sand of the dune.
Breaking off from the sands of the dune.

And a tawny fawn among the gazelles of the plain
More yellow than the beasts of the wasteland
Beckons to me with tender ʿanam shoots.
It beckoned to me with its moist tuft.

He watched for the watchers' sleep, until
I lay in wait for the slumber of the heads
The watcher's eye grew drowsy;
Until the watcher’s eye dozed off.

And the night came, its tail dripping wet, walking
In fear, with a swaying bough.
Hesitantly, on tiptoe with tottering staff.

It bent its neck shedding its tears
And greeted me with a hennaed hand and a cool, white-toothed mouth.
Lamenting with whimpers and moans.

So I stood, more wakeful than it, to take a sip
Sweeter than wine to an avid drinker.
Sweeter than wine for drinking.

The morning breeze blowing from the south.

Passing it off as the false dawn.

Then I stood to bid farewell, stroking
And the star inclined, bending toward its setting.
A branch that the cold night had withered.

Who traveled by night in a new, striped mantle.

Except a fragrance that clung to their necklines.
