I was a lion of al-Shara; my veil was my thicket.
I was the lion of battle, shy behind my garb
Battle held me in reserve for a day of combat.
Battle stored me for a day of combat

أنا سيف جردتني عن قرابي
I said, when you called me to service:
I said when you called me to serve

I am a bare sword, stripped of its scabbard

With a hand that has already ceased to strike.
By a hand that has ceased to strike
A Mashrafi blade, adorned like a flash of lightning,
My glitter flashes like lightning when it's drawn

Keen of edge, its sharpness will not fail
How long, then, am I to be left outside the scabbard?
So why am I stripped of my scabbard?

Return me to closeness, else
Brandish me once to learn what lies within me.
Shake me once to know what is in me
