O my God, You are the finest refuge.

Grant us well-being and heal us, for healing comes from You.

Indeed, this plague is a blazing fire,

whose heat scorches hearts devoted to divine oneness.

How many gatherings have been torn apart, and hearts,

and joys the phoenix has carried away!

And tears, like pearls, scattered in showers

upon cheeks whose rosy tint is blood.

And faces like suns have vanished—

if only you could see them when the covering is removed!

They were honored with dust as bedding, though once

even air and water sometimes harmed them.

That is from our grievous sin, as

reports from our Prophet have told us.

God is angered by sins, and then come assaults—

when sins run rampant—from the enemies with their stings.

It is, without doubt, a mercy; yet we,

O Mighty One, are too weak to bear it.

How much, how much mercy You have! And You bestow

it without ordeal, whenever You will.

Our Lord, our Lord, to You we have fled for refuge.

Our Lord, we have no refuge but You.

    ما لنا عِزَّةٌ ولا استغناء

    We have come in our neediness and humility;

we have neither might nor self-sufficiency.

We knock at the door in supplication and hope:

how excellent the supplication, how excellent the hope!

Spare us, O our Lord, and rescue

those who remain, before destruction engulfs all.

We were no less than the people of Jonah when

they believed and then gained enjoyment.

You lifted the punishment from them for a time,

then they died; no creature endures forever.

We have as Messenger the master of humankind,

beneath whom rank the prophets and intercessors.

And with our Lord we have a standing of

truth; we are the chosen and the witnesses.

The mighty Book is a manifest light

among us, through which darkness is dispelled.

Though sinners are among us, among us too

are those whose prayers are answered when they pray.

Our Lord, a promise has come from Your Prophet,

in a report whose transmitters are trustworthy:

'Have mercy on those on earth; God will have mercy on you—

exalted is He—and the merciful shall be shown mercy.'

This befits You above all, so show mercy,

a mercy by which affliction is dispelled.

For insight has faltered because of it,

and the eyes of humankind are blinded by it.

    لاَ وَلاَ صَابِرٌ لَدَيْهِ عزاء

    The forbearing have no steadfastness before it;

no, nor have the patient any consolation before it.

    وسطا ذا الوبا وعَزَّ الدّواء

    Humanity's plight has grown dire, and You are our hope;

this epidemic has struck, and a cure is hard to find.

The mighty Book has given glad tidings of ease—

twofold amid our hardship—and fulfillment comes from You.

And sufficient for us is: 'God will bring ease

after hardship'; Your promise will be fulfilled.

So it is fitting that ease should come at once,

and right that suffering should depart.

May God's blessings, and then peace,

be upon the leader whose example is followed:

Ahmad, the Chosen, the intercessor, when

each says, 'Myself! I bear no responsibility.'

When the Messenger speaks, absorbed in praise,

then it is proclaimed: 'Yours are bliss and ease!'

Oh, what an exalted station, through which

distress was lifted from all humankind!

And may His fullest favor be bestowed upon the Companions,

after the Family and those enfolded by the cloak,

and upon all followers in every age,

with no end, even when time itself ends.

O believers, repent, all of you!

O people, you are the needy.
