أَمحمّدٌO Muhammad قدindeed حُزْتَyou have attained كلَّevery فضيلةٍvirtue
أَمحمّدٌ قد حُزْتَ كلَّ فضيلةٍ
قدماًlong ago شهدتُI bore witness بجودكto your generosity المعلومwell-known
قدماً شهدتُ بجودك المعلوم
O Muhammad, you have attained every virtue;
O Muhammad, you have indeed attained every virtue.
Long have I testified to your renowned generosity.
Long ago, I bore witness to your well-known generosity.
فامْنُنْso grant a favor بفِطْرٍwith a fast-breaking meal منfrom طعامكyour food إنّنيfor I
فامْنُنْ بفِطْرٍ من طعامك إنّني
أصبحتُI have become للتّزريدas regards hearty eating كالمفطومlike a weaned child
أصبحتُ للتّزريد كالمفطوم
Then grant me a fast-breaking meal from your food, for I
So grant me some of your food to break my fast, for I
have grown as eager to swallow morsels as a weaned child.
have become like a weaned child when it comes to feasting.
واعلمand know بأنّكthat you إنif بَخِلْتَare stingy بأكلهwith eating it
واعلم بأنّك إن بَخِلْتَ بأكله
عُوقِبْتَyou will be punished منby صَبْرِenduring الْتِهابthe burning heat سَمُومِof a scorching wind
عُوقِبْتَ من صَبْرِ الْتِهاب سَمُومِ
And know that, if you begrudge me the eating of it,
And know that if you begrudge me eating it,
you will be punished by having to endure the blaze of a simoom.
you will be punished by having to endure a scorching wind’s burning heat.
