كَبْرَتweighed heavily عليهمupon them إنهاindeed it لكبيرةٌis truly weighty
منصوبَةٌset up عَلَماًas a banner علىfor التمييزdistinction
It weighed heavily on them; indeed, it is weighty,
It was too great a burden for them, erected high as a banner for distinction,
set up as a banner of distinction.
So the hands of Sheba scattered in carrying it, though discord among people is no prize.
فتفرّقواso they scattered أيديhands (groups) سبأSheba فيover حملهاbearing it
والخُلْفُand disagreement بينamong النّاسpeople غيرnot عزيزrare
So they scattered like the people of Sheba over bearing it,
For some of them it is an adornment, while for others, an approach to refinement.
and disagreement among people is no rare thing.
As for the Benu Wurgummah, their jurisprudent did not establish his doctrine on permissiveness.
فعلىso, for فريقa group مِنْهُمُamong them هيit مُثْلَةٌa disgrace
ولبعضهمand for some of them زُلفىnearness إلىto التبريزeminence
Thus, for one group among them, it is a disgrace,
Therefore, O protector, be informed that he who comes to you in a sanctuary will have sanctuary.
and for some of them, a means of drawing near to eminence.
So grant him sanctuary from zeal and from spite through it, no matter the condition of the criticized or the criticizer.
أماas for بنوsons of ورغمَّةWarghamma فَفَقَيهُهُمْthen their jurist
لمdid not يَجْرproceed مَذْهَبُهhis legal position علىon the basis of التجويزpermission
As for the Banu Warghamma, their jurist—
You remain a cave, resorted to through your glory, where every dear one attains more than his goal.
his legal position did not favor permitting it.
فلذاكso, for that reason أَمَّsought حِمَاكَyour sanctuary عِلْماًknowing أنّthat مَنْwhoever

So he sought your sanctuary, knowing that whoever
comes to it is there in a well-guarded refuge.
فَأَجِرْهُso grant him refuge منfrom هَمْزٍslander ومنand from لَمْزٍtaunts بهاconcerning it

So grant him refuge from slander and from taunts concerning it;
what is the plight of the taunted and the slandered?
لاmay … not زلتمُyou cease to be كهفاًa cave of refuge يُلاَذُrefuge is sought بمجدكمin your glory

May you ever remain a cave of refuge, with shelter sought in your glory,
so that one gains every precious thing, beyond one's aim.
