1. سبيلٌ ثنى صاحبُ الطابع ال

    عنانَ إليه وشاد انتظامَه

    A fountain—the Keeper of the Seal turned the

    reins toward it and built it in good order.

  2. لقد حاز يوسف عزّاً به

    وأحرز الأَجْرَ ليوم القيامة

    Through it, Yusuf indeed attained honor,

    and secured reward for the Day of Resurrection.

  3. وساق الأجور لمخدومه الم

    ليكِ الهُمَامِ ومولى الكرامَة

    and brought rewards to his master, the

    noble-hearted sovereign and lord of honor.

  4. فَنِعْمَ الجميلُ لمن قد بنى

    ونِعْمَ الجميل لِمَنْ قد أقامَه

    How fine the good deed of the one who built it,

    and how fine the good deed of the one who established it!

  5. شفى غُلَّةَ الخلق في وقتها

    وأطفأ من كلّ ظامٍ أَوامَه

    He relieved the people's burning thirst in due time,

    and extinguished every thirsty person's burning thirst.

  6. وجاء بماءٍ مَعِينٍ له

    على آلسِّلْمِ وآلأَمْنِ أقوى علامَة

    And he brought flowing water that bears

    the strongest sign of peace and security.

  7. فلا غَرْوَ أن جاء تاريخُه

    سبيلٌ حفيلٌ سبيل السّلامَة

    No wonder, then, that its chronogram reads:

    “A bountiful fountain, a fountain of safety.”
