أهلا بمطلع نورك البراق

O newspaper Al-Watan, beloved and enduring,

Welcome to the dawning of your brilliant light!

أقبلت في الثوب الجديد فمرحبا

ومن القلوب تحية المشتاق

You have come in a new robe, so welcome!

And from the hearts, the greeting of one who longs.

يا من تعبر حرة عن رأينا

إن الصراحة منبع الإشراق

O you who freely give voice to our opinion,

Indeed, candor is the wellspring of radiance.

حرية التعبير إن دلت على

شيء تدل على الكيان الراقي

Freedom of expression, if it points to

Anything, points to a civilized polity.

ما قيمة الإنسان يقبر رأيه

في صدره كتكتم العشاق

What worth has a person who buries his opinion

In his breast, with the secrecy of lovers?

يا من غدت بالاسم رمز جهادنا

شخص الجميع إليك بالأحداق

O you whose very name has become a symbol of our struggle,

Everyone has fixed their eyes upon you.

شقى الطريق معبدا أو شائكا

لا تيأسي من نصرة الخلاق

Forge your way along the road, whether paved or thorny;

Do not despair of the Creator's aid.

لا تأخذنك لومة من لائم في

الحق أو تخشى من الإرهاق

Let no reproach from a critic daunt you in

Upholding truth, nor fear exhaustion.

فالحر في كل العصور معرض

لمعارك وتطاحن وشقاق

For the free person, in every age, is exposed

To battles, bitter conflict, and discord.

والدهر علمنا بأن الفضل للحر

الكريم الفاضل السباق

And time has taught us that distinction belongs to the free person—

Noble, virtuous, and foremost.

إن الصحافة في البلاد دلالة

ملموسة للنجح والإخفاق

Indeed, the press in a country is an indication—

A tangible one—of success and failure.

كوني المثال المرتجى لصحافة

مفكوكة الأيدي من الأطواق

Be the hoped-for model for a press

Whose hands are freed from shackles.

كوني كذا الوطن المجاهد وابشري

بالفوز رغم الكيد والاقلاق

Be thus, O striving Al-Watan, and rejoice

In victory, despite scheming and vexation.
