You are a mystery that has wearied

You are a secret that human minds

human minds in fathoming it.

Have struggled with

إن تكن أشجتك أشعا

إن تكن أشجتك أشعا

ري وأناتي الشجيه

ري وأناتي الشجيه

If you have been saddened by my verses

If your branches are my poems

and my plaintive moans,

And my sorrowful melodies

فتقبّل طاقةً بالدم

فتقبّل طاقةً بالدم

دم والدمع نديه

دم والدمع نديه

then accept a bouquet, with blood—

Then accept an offering with blood

blood and tears—bedewed.

And tears as a gift

وارضَ عنها وإذا لم

وارضَ عنها وإذا لم

ترضَ فاغفر لي الهديه

ترضَ فاغفر لي الهديه

And be pleased with it; and if you are not

And be satisfied with it, and if

pleased, then forgive me for the gift.

You are not satisfied, then forgive me for the offering

يا حبيبي نضب العم

يا حبيبي نضب العم

ر وقرّبنا الضحيه

ر وقرّبنا الضحيه

O my beloved, life has run dry,

Oh my beloved, life has ended

and we have offered the sacrifice.

And we have brought the sacrifice

إن يكن قد شقي الما

إن يكن قد شقي الما

ضي فما أهنا البقيه

ضي فما أهنا البقيه

If the past has been wretched,

If the past was miserable

then how blissful is what remains!

Then what of the rest

في خيالاتٍ غوال

في خيالاتٍ غوال

وأمانٍ ذهبيه

وأمانٍ ذهبيه

In precious imaginings

In fanciful dreams

and golden hopes,

And golden safety

يطلع الصبح عليها

يطلع الصبح عليها

مثلما تمضي العشيه

مثلما تمضي العشيه

dawn rises upon them

The dawn rises over them

just as evening passes.

As the evening passes

أنت صهباء السماوا

أنت صهباء السماوا

ت وروحٌ قُدُسيه

ت وروحٌ قُدُسيه

You are the wine of the heavens,

You are the clarity of the heavens

and a sacred spirit.

And a holy spirit

بتَّ تسقيني فتنسي

نيَ أوجاعي العصيه

نيَ أوجاعي العصيه

You spent the night giving me drink, making

That makes me drink and makes me

me forget my unyielding pains.

Forget my defiant pains

فسلاماً كل حين

وغراماً وتحيه

So peace at every moment,

Greetings always
