وفي الكأسِ من ماء الخدودِ عصارة

وفي الكأسِ من ماء الخدودِ عصارة

أحلَّ الهوى للعاشقينَ شرابَهَا

أحلَّ الهوى للعاشقينَ شرابَهَا

And in the cup is an essence drawn from the moisture of cheeks;

In the cup, juice from the cheeks' water,

Love made its drink lawful for lovers.

Love has made its drink permissible to lovers,

وما كنتُ أدري قبلَها أنَّ وَجنةً

وما كنتُ أدري قبلَها أنَّ وَجنةً

تَنَفَّسَ فيها عاشقٌ فأذابَهَا

تَنَفَّسَ فيها عاشقٌ فأذابَهَا

And before it, I did not know that a cheek

And I did not know before it that a cheek

had been breathed upon by a lover, who melted it.

Where a lover breathed, melted it.
