A smiling mouth, such as the artist loves.

Bliss and In'am are yours, my brother Musa.

If you have inspiration for which we yearn,

Then we have no inspiration like this beauty.

    Artlessness and innocence made pure,

As though they were breezes from eternity's whispers.

If people have a goblet from which they drink,

Then yours are the cup, the tawny wine, and the goblet.

A reality of enchanting, melodious beauty,

As though it were dreams of delicate shade.

A beauty, best described and summed up

As beauty in which minds have lost their way.

A hand upon the wound, healing what has afflicted it,

And a balm in which pains fade away.

And an image that left its poet powerless to describe it,

And a dreamer and a painter lost their way describing it.

Do not marvel at humankind, In'am, if they worship

Your eyes, or if they lose themselves in describing it.

For you are pure, and art is purer; all that

    Circles you—art excepted—is sin.

Beauty in you is a melody, and its expression

A melody that cradles it—and beauty is music.
