  1. شكوت لسيدي مقام أرض

    تجنب أهلها العيش الرغيد

    I complained to my master of dwelling in a land

    Where a life of ease shuns its people.

  2. نزلت أباد بيغ فانبدغنا

    به مذ كظتنا البرد الشديد

    I lodged at Abad Beg, and we became begrimed

    There, since the bitter cold oppressed us.

  3. فذي سبخاؤه بيضاء ملح

    وأوجهنا من الدخان سود

    So here is its salt flat, white with salt,

    And our faces are black from smoke.
