When she speaks to me with languid eyes,

I answer her with tears that rush forth.

So the tale-bearers do not know what passes between us,

Though our desires have already been fulfilled within our hearts.

O my slayer, who kills me unjustly with the arrows of her glance—

Is there no judge to grant redress against an unjust eye?

For if lovers had a judge drawn from love,

Then he would surely judge between my heart and my eye.
