لا والذي تسجد الجباهُ له

لا والذي تسجد الجباهُ له

ما لي بما دون ثوبها خبرُ

No, by Him before whom foreheads prostrate themselves,

No! By Him to Whom prostrate foreheads bow

I know nothing of what lies beneath her garment,

Naught of her robe concerns me, or her hue

ولا بغيها ولا هممت بها

ولا بغيها ولا هممت بها

ما كان إلا الحديث والنظرُ

ما كان إلا الحديث والنظرُ

Nor of her waywardness; nor did I harbor designs upon her.

Nor her refusal, nor her granting access

There was nothing but conversation and gazing.

Naught was between us save discourse, and view
