And I, with your faltering rule, am like one driving

a spent she-camel that a rider urges onward despite her exhaustion.

When my soul tells me the truth about you, it says to me:

“Do you know—may God guide you—whom you reproach?”

So, by God, I do not know, when I remember you,

whether to forgive you for your offense or punish you.

Indeed, I have no choice but to overlook your offense,

even if none among you repents of it.

And I—my mother is your mother, and my father is to you

a father—have paths away from you, if I so wished.
