A loved one has gone far from you till the end of days;
So the eye pours endlessly, with streaming tears.

A far departure summoned him, with no return to be hoped for;
So your heart is bereft, and you are sorrowful.

And Ahmad, in his absence, does not return.

So I reach evening, and the eye has no share in him.

On the morning of spear-combat by a broad spearhead and shaft-joints;

From whom awakening banished the sweetness of dreams.

At evening, already departing, with sunset at hand.

Melted by the fire of grief, and so it melts away.
