عَلىon حَذَرٍguard حَتّىuntil تَرىyou see الأَمرَthe affair مُبرَماfirmly twisted
I see people in a loosely spun affair, so never cease
to be on your guard until you see the affair firmly bound.
وَأَمسِكand hold fast بأطرافِto the edges of الكَلامِspeech فَإِنَّهُfor it is

نَجاتُكَyour deliverance مِمّاfrom what خِفتَyou feared أَمراًan affair مُجَمجَماobscure
And hold fast to the edges of speech, for it is
your deliverance from the obscure affair you fear.
فَإِنَّكَfor you لاnot تَستَطيعُcan رَدَّrecall الَّذيthat which مَضىhas passed
إِذاwhen القَولُspeech عَنfrom زَلااتِهِits slips فارَقَleft الفَماthe mouth
For you cannot recall what has passed
once speech, with its slips, has left the mouth.

And how many a man you see, his honor intact, keeping silent,
and another who ruined himself by speaking.
