وَعَصرَكَand your time بالأَعارِفِat al-Aʿārif وَالشلولِand al-Shalūl
Do you remember the days at weathered Dhu al-ʿAhd,
Do you remember the time of fleeting covenants
And your time at al-Aʿārif and al-Shalūl,
And your era of customs and affectations
وَتَعريجَand the turning aside of المَطيَّةِthe mount يَومَthe day of شَوطىShawṭā

And the mount’s turning aside on the day of Shawṭā,
And the meandering of my she-camel on the day we travelled
At the open grounds and the remains of once-inhabited camps?
Across the soft sands and pleasant hillocks
