فَدَعنيso leave me راغِماًabased أَشقىI suffer بِوَجديfrom my longing
فَدَعني راغِماً أَشقى بِوَجدي
وَخُذand take قَلبيmy heart إِلَيكَto you بِغَيرِwithout حَمدِthanks
وَخُذ قَلبي إِلَيكَ بِغَيرِ حَمدِ
So leave me, abased, to suffer from my longing.
And take my heart to yourself, without thanks.
سَقامa sickness لاnot تَرِقّyou feel pity عَلَيَّfor me مِنهُbecause of it
سَقام لا تَرِقّ عَلَيَّ مِنهُ
وَوجدand a longing لاnot تُكافِئهُyou repay it بِوُدِّwith affection
وَوجد لا تُكافِئهُ بِوُدِّ
A sickness for which you show me no pity,
And a longing you do not repay with affection.
بِنَفسيwith my life مَنthe one whose إِساءَتُهhis ill-treatment اِعتِمادٌdeliberate intent
بِنَفسي مَن إِساءَتُه اِعتِمادٌ
وَمَنand the one whose إِحسانُهhis kindness عَنfrom غَيرِlack of عَمدِdeliberate intent
وَمَن إِحسانُه عَن غَيرِ عَمدِ
My life be ransom for the one whose ill-treatment is deliberate,
And the one whose kindness is unintentional,
وَمَنand the one whom أصفَيتُهI sincerely devoted to him فيin الوُدّlove جُهديmy effort
وَمَن أصفَيتُه في الوُدّ جُهدي
فَعارَضَso he countered فيin الجَفاءِcoldness بِمِثلِwith the equivalent of جهديmy effort
فَعارَضَ في الجَفاءِ بِمِثلِ جهدي
And the one to whom I devoted all my effort in love,
Yet he countered in coldness with effort equal to mine.
