رَدّhe rejected قَوليmy words وَصَدّقand believed الأَقوالاthe statements
رَدّ قَولي وَصَدّق الأَقوالا
وَأَطاعَand obeyed الوشاةthe talebearers وَالعُذّالاand the reproachers
وَأَطاعَ الوشاة وَالعُذّالا
He rejected my words and believed what was said,
And heeded the talebearers and the reproachers.
أَتَراهُdo you think he يَكونwill be شَهرَa month of صدودestrangement
أَتَراهُ يَكون شَهرَ صدود
وَعَلىand upon وَجهِهhis face رَأَيتُI saw هِلالاa crescent
وَعَلى وَجهِه رَأَيتُ هِلالا
Will he be a month of estrangement, I wonder,
When I have seen a crescent upon his face?
