وَقُلتُ لَهُم قُربٌ كَقُربي طاهِر

وَقُلتُ لَهُم قُربٌ كَقُربي طاهِر

صَدقتُ وَلكِنّي بِغَير الَّذي أُبدي

صَدقتُ وَلكِنّي بِغَير الَّذي أُبدي

And I told them, “A closeness like mine is pure.”

I said to them a kinship like mine is pure

I spoke the truth, but I mean something other than what I reveal.

I spoke the truth, but not what I professed

أَراكَ بِقَلبي دونهم وَأَراهُم

أَراكَ بِقَلبي دونهم وَأَراهُم

بِعَيني فَهذا فَرقُ بَينكما عِندي

بِعَيني فَهذا فَرقُ بَينكما عِندي

I see you with my heart, not them, and I see them

I see you in my heart beyond them though I see

With my eye—this, to me, is the difference between you and them.

Them with my eyes, so this the difference rests
