وَناجيتُ نَفسي بِالفُراقِ أَروضها

وَناجيتُ نَفسي بِالفُراقِ أَروضها

فَقُلتُ رُوَيداً لا أَغَرّك من صَبري

فَقُلتُ رُوَيداً لا أَغَرّك من صَبري

And I spoke privately with my soul of parting, seeking to tame it.

I confided to myself about parting, trying to tame it,

So I said, “Easy now; I will not deceive you with my patience.”

And said, "Patience, don't let my composure mislead you."

فَقُلتُ لَها فَالبَينُ وَالهَجر واحِد

فَقُلتُ لَها فَالبَينُ وَالهَجر واحِد

فَقالَت فَأُمنَى بِالفُراق وَبِالهَجر

فَقالَت فَأُمنَى بِالفُراق وَبِالهَجر

So I said to it, “For parting and estrangement are one.”

I said, "Separation and estrangement are one."

Then it said, “Then I am afflicted with parting and estrangement.”

It replied, "Then yearn for parting and estrangement."
