أَلا ربّ لُؤم بَينَ عِزّ وَثروَة

أَلا ربّ لُؤم بَينَ عِزّ وَثروَة

وَرَبّت جود بَينَ فَقر وَإِقتار

وَرَبّت جود بَينَ فَقر وَإِقتار

Indeed, much baseness is found amid high standing and wealth,

Alas, my Lord, glory and wealth are a burning fire

and much generosity amid poverty and privation.

While generosity lies between poverty and distress

فَلا يَغُرَّنك ذو طِمرَين تَحقِره

فَلا يَغُرَّنك ذو طِمرَين تَحقِره

فَربّ خِرق كَريم بَين أَطمار

فَربّ خِرق كَريم بَين أَطمار

So do not be misled by a man in two tattered garments whom you scorn,

So let not him of two days contemptuously despise you

for many a noble, generous man is clad in rags.

For many a tattered garment veils a noble soul
