أعيضَت بَعدَ حمل الشَّو

كِ أَوقاراً من الحرفِ

After carrying thorns, they were given instead

After bearing the passion’s burden

heavy loads of garden cress;

With dignity beyond words

نَشاوى لا من الصَّهبا

نَشاوى لا من الصَّهبا

ءِ بَل من شِدَّة الضَّعفِ

ءِ بَل من شِدَّة الضَّعفِ

drunk, not from wine,

My revels now are not of the lightning’s

but from extreme weakness.

Radiance but of my weakness’ force
