أسدٌ ضار إِذا مانَعتَه

أسدٌ ضار إِذا مانَعتَه

وَأَبٌ بَرّ إِذا ما قَدرا

وَأَبٌ بَرّ إِذا ما قَدرا

A fierce lion when you resist him,

and a kind father when he is able.

يعرف الأَبعدَ إِن أَثرى وَلا

يعرف الأَبعدَ إِن أَثرى وَلا

يعرف الأَدنى إِذا ما اِفتَقرا

يعرف الأَدنى إِذا ما اِفتَقرا

He recognizes the most distant if they grow wealthy, but does not

recognize the nearest when they become poor.
