Visit the grave of Nicola Raad, showered with
Visit a soil to say thunder has rained
the rain of grace and watered by tears as they flowed.
The rain of contentment has watered it and tears have irrigated it as they poured
فَتىًa youth لَقَدindeed بَكَتِwept over الآدابُthe literary arts مَصرَعَهُhis death
حُزناًin sorrow وَناحَand wailed التُقَىpiety مِنfrom بَعدِهِafter him أَسَفاin grief
A youth for whose death the literary arts indeed wept
A young man whose death made literature weep
in sorrow, and piety wailed in grief after his passing.
With sorrow, and piety lamented for him afterwards with regret
قَدindeed سارَhe went فيat السّتِّsix وَالعشرينَand twenty مُنصَرِفاًdeparting
عَنّاfrom us وَغادرَand left حُزناًa sorrow لَيسَis not مُنصَرِفاdeparting
At twenty-six he went his way, departing
He passed away on the twenty sixth
from us, and left a sorrow that will not depart.
Leaving us with grief that does not pass
فَخَطَّso he inscribed مِنfrom فَوقِabove مَثواهُhis resting place مُؤرِّخُهُhis chronogram writer
وَيحِيalas for me عَلىfor غُصنِa bough بانٍa ban tree فيin الصِّباyouth اِنقَصَفاsnapped
So his chronogram writer inscribed above his resting place:
So his chronicler etched above his tomb
“Alas for me, for a bough of the ban tree snapped in youth!”
And a branch of sweet basil broke off in the morning breeze
